MARSAXLOKK

Road Atlas [131 E4–5] | Google Map

Marsaxlokk (pop. 2900) is an important centre of fishing. Colourfully painted boats with names like God save us and Mother Teresa are moored at the quay, fishermen mend their nets down by the water or spread them out to dry. This idyllic little town is worth visiting at any time, especially on a Sunday morning, when Malta’s biggest weekly market is held along the harbour in place of the modest daily market. You can buy almost anything here, whether fish, vegetables, jeans, electronic goods, souvenirs or spirits.

There are lots of little restaurants and snack bars along the waterfront road, specialising in fresh fish. A good place to eat is It Xlukkajr on the waterfront (daily | Xatt Is-Sajjieda 97 | Budget), and for a good place to stay, try Duncan Holiday Flats right by the harbour and the church (8 rooms | Triq il-Kajjik | tel. 21 65 72 12 | www.duncanguesthouse.com | Budget). 5 mi from Marsaskala
